Sgraffito Designs

I enjoy using sgraffito on my thrown ceramics through white and black englobes. When the piece is leather hard, I paint englobes on the surface. After waiting for them to dry out, I go back and carve designs back into the clay. Carving through the colored englobes allow the raw color of the clay body to show through. A clear glaze coats the surface.
